If only my child would sleep!

If only my child would sleep I would...

Get up for work on time.
I would be able to take a bath, but because i'm normally running late I don't get a chance to bathe. So, only a splash of body spray and to work I go. (stinky and all)
I wouldn't need 3 cups of coffee to get the day started.
I wouldn't be crabby Abbi.
I would be refreshed and energized ready to start the day.

What I've learned......

I can function on 4 hours of sleep.
I can make it through the day with caffeine!!
It's not her fault and not to take it out on her.
I love her NO matter what!
That mother hood is the best and hardest thing in my life and I wouldn't trade it for the world!

I love my sweet angel soooo much but I do wish she would sleep! I've change her routine thinking something was throughing her off! I've tried letting her cry it out, believe me I want do that again! She cried until she threw up!! Literally!! It was a mess!! White curded milk every where!! I really just don't know what to do so any advice who be greatly appreciated!!! Motherhood is precious, but can be quite difficult at time!!
So pray for my little and our family!! We need sleep!!!

Girl - I'm right there with you. I know I can now function on 4 hours - whereas before I'd say you were crazy for saying that!

I have no advice - because I've tried it all too. Crying it out was so hard - but in the end it just made her even more mad and even harder to put her back to sleep. Reese gets up anywhere from 3 to 4 times per night and eats 2 of those times. I've tried feeding her more during the day and later at night, but she won't have it.

We'll get through it! My mom always says 'this won't last forever'!

Have you tried letting her "Cry It Out" in smaller incremements? Start out small. They say to let me them cry as old as they are in months....no idea if it works though. Also, try to stay consistent with her bedtime and naptimes. My Mom swears by consistency and she's had 5!

Good luck!

I have to tell you I know exactly how you feel. My son did not sleep thru the night until he was 9 months old. I tried everything! The only thing that works for me now is I set his CD player on track 8 (the sleepy time song), repeat, low volume, and asleep he goes for...well...sometimes 10 hrs!!!

He also has a favorite stuffed animal (CG-Curious George) that seems to help keep him calm in his crib. I have a video monitor so I can see him cuddling up to CG when he starts to get squirmy. Hang in there!!! I know how hard it is to function on 4 (sometimes 2) hours of sleep! Especially for us working mommies!

Oh girl, I am sorry you are going through this. My daughter did the same thing & the doctor said it was a habit & to let her cry it out. The 1st night she screamed for 3 hours (yikes!) & the next night for 1 hour. But from that time on she slept through the night. It was hard, but worth it. She is now 8, and is not permanently scarred by crying it out :)

Well sissy...you know how I feel about all this - Mine STILL doesn't sleep all night - you do what you "gotta" do. It's funny you realize on how little sleep you can really go on. Moms are AMAZING creatures!! I LOVE U

Daylight Savings Time has been a killer on us! My 3 year old hasn't adjusted yet, if 6am wasn't early enough, now she's up at 5am demanding Backyardigans!

No matter what we do, she is programmed to rise at 6 (now 5). It's horrific!

In terms of the baby, my pediatrician gave me some good advice. Once our son turned 6 months he said, "would you let him cry if he wanted to play with knives? Would you let him cry if he wanted to run out into traffic? Well then, how important is sleep to you?

I guess the moral was that you would let him/her cry if it was about something else, why can't we do it for sleep? Sleep is important for babies (and for parents). For three nights I layed awake in bed repeating "no you can't play with knives" in my head as he cried, but then he was "fixed" and he slept peacefully through the night until he turned 3.

Good luck!

I am checking out your blog off of Hollie's blog... I am sooooo loving the Crabby Abbi part. That was funny! I can completely relate. The main thing that works for my 18 month old, is to cuddle her with her toys, because she is such a cuddler!
I love your stories~ I'll be back!!
